Please review the installation requirements and system recommendations below before downloading and installing Principia CAMS.

If you are installing Principia CAMS on a computer running Windows 7 or higher operating system, Morningstar recommends following these installation procedures.

Installation Requirements

  • To install/update on any operating system, you MUST have System Administrator rights that allow full read/write access and rights to set file locks, update the registry, and expand folder size restrictions.
  • Each computer installing the program MUST have a C:\ drive. Although the computer must have a C:\ drive, you can install the actual program to a different drive.
  • Principia CAMS is 64-bit compatible and is designed to run on Server 2003 & 2008, Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10.

System Recommendations

  • 3 GHZ Dual Core Processor
  • 4 GB Memory
  • Video Card w/512 MB RAM (1 GB Preferred)
  • 500 GB Hard Drive
  • 17" Monitor
  • Printer w/16 MB RAM (64 MB Preferred)
  • Minimum 250 MB free disk space required on the drive containing the system's TEMP folder.
  • Each computer installing the program MUST have a C:\ drive. Although the computer must have a C:\ drive, you can install the actual program to a different drive.

Although CAMS runs on Novell 4.x or higher (with the most current Client 32 or Microsoft Client for Netware), Morningstar's Support staff does not assist with issues attributed to Novell. Contact your Novell Consultant.

Internet Requirements

  • Internet Access via High Speed Connection (DSL or Higher)
Morningstar's support staff does not assist with access via any other means (firewalls, routers, Internet boxes, etc.). We can only assist with system issues associated with a Proxy or DUN.

Morningstar's Support staff does not assist with network connectivity. Please contact your Network Consultant for problems relating to network connections.

Miscellaneous Recommendations

  • Backup Systems - CAMS contains an internal backup routine that should be utilized on a regularly scheduled basis. Although we cannot assist with the usage of or restoration from alternative backup devices, we recommend using more than one method for data storage.

  • Exporting Data - Data can be exported from CAMS for use in a variety of financial planning, asset allocation, contact management, and other applications (such as Microsoft Word, Access, or Excel). We do not provide support on these packages. Any support concerns regarding the manipulation of information inside of those packages should be referred to that software vendor.
